Established in July 1989, Bluewater Maribago is the flagship of the Bluewater Resorts group, a wholly Filipino-owned chain of resorts showcasing the best of Filipino culture: creative, warm, friendly, attentive, caring and relaxing.

Located along the eastern part of Mactan Island, Bluewater Maribago is situated on the east shore of Mactan Island, specifically at Maribago Bay. This area is known for its pristine waters, thanks to the consistent flow of currents of the Hilutungan Channel. The channel’s depth, approximately 300 fathoms (about 550 meters), makes it a hub for Cebu’s renowned diving and snorkeling spots. Many resorts, including Bluewater Maribago, are strategically placed along this scenic shoreline, offering guests easy access to relaxation and aquatic adventures amidst the natural beauty of Mactan Island.

Mactan Island takes a special place in Philippine history. At the northern shore called Punta Engaño, the first recorded resistance of Filipinos against the Spaniards, known as the Battle of Mactan took place. Led by the local chieftain Lapu-Lapu, the Mactan natives defeated the troops of Ferdinand Magellan. Italian explorer who joined Magellan’s expedition, Antonio Figafetta, chronicled the event. The Battle of Mactan is celebrated as the “Kadaugan sa Mactan” every 27th of April to commemorate the victory. A monument of Lapu-Lapu is perched overlooking the bay like he is ready to defend his people and land.
